One of the oldest universities in both Telugu states, Osmania University is facing difficult time to gear up the funds for organizing its centenary celebrations in 2017. It is facing acute funds shortage in the University’s main account.

The top administration of the University along with the Vice Chancellor is looking at ways to raise funds for organizing the historic occasion in the history of the University. The University top officials hosted a consultative meeting and discussed about the fund rising sources. The fund raising committee has finalised the modalities to approach former vice chancellors, alumni in top posts and others who retired from government services for their inputs on the university’s centenary celebrations.

City Mayor B Rammohan also attended the meeting and pursued the various proposals to mark the occasion including holding year-long celebrations across the state,felicitating 100 noted alumni to mark the centenary and establishing the ‘centenary garden’ with a two-acre site at the university. Apart from seeking state government’s help, the university also plans to approach the Union Human Resources Ministry, which it has learnt, extended special grants of Rs 100 crore to universities that had completed their centenary. The university is also planning to attract the corporate sponsors and plans to establish a skill-development centre that will be named after major contributors.
