Speaking at the inaugural function of the All India Hindu Convention held in Goa on Wednesday, Sadhvi Saraswati, president of Sanatan Dharma Prachar Seva Samiti demanded that those who consume beef should be “executed.” Her exact words were, “I appeal to the government of India that those people who consider eating the meat of their own mother [cows] as a status symbol, should be hanged to death.”

Who organized this Hindu convention?

The event in Goa was organised by the Hindu Janajagriti Samiti, which is allied to the Sanathan Sanstha – some of whose activists were allegedly involved in the murder of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar in Pune in August 2013. At present one of them is in judicial custody, seeking bail which was refused on the grounds that he may escape the cluthches of law.

More than 130 Hindu organisations, from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal are in Goa to attend the four-day long event.

Congress demands FIR against sadhvi

All India Congress Committee Secretary Girish Chodankar in Goa said that the government should take suo motu cognisance of her statements and file an FIR against her for “hate speech”.

But previous history has shown that they are not held responsible for any vicious threats or attacks- Baba Ramdev who has been issued a non-bailable warrant by a Haryana court for a similar remark of beheading those who do not say “Bharat mata ki jai” has never even attended the court to defend himself. The Sadhvi who is named as prime accused in the Babri Masjid demolition, continues as Union minister.
