The prime accused in the brutal murder of 15-year-old Junaid Khan was arrested from Maharashtra’s Dhule district on Saturday, where he had found himself a job days after the incident. He has confessed to stabbing the Muslim teenager.

The accused was working as a security guard in Delhi and had in no time secured a job in Dhule. Five others have been arrested by the police so far are currently lodged in Faridabad jail. The police said all of them claimed they did not wield the knife that killed Khan, but admitted to being a part of the mob that had hurled abuses and manhandled the boys.

The Ballabhgarh horror

On June 22, Khan and three relatives were going home to Haryana for the Ramzan festival and had boarded a local train from Delhi’s Sadar Bazar Station. A fight broke out between some passengers and the brothers over seats. The incident allegedly turned communal after a mob repeatedly called the brothers “anti-nationals” and “beef eaters” and threw their skull caps on the floor. Junaid was killed in the fight, while his brothers were hospitalised with stab wounds. His body was dumped close to Asaoti village in Faridabad district. Incidentally 2 of the mob were government employees in Delhi.

Test Identification Parade before court

Junaid’s mother has demanded capital punishment for the main accused.“My son was innocent. I lost him as no one came to his help. While exemplary punishment should be given to all accused involved in the case, I demand that the main accused who stabbed Junaid should be hanged,” she told reporters at her village in Ballabgarh today.

The main accused will be produced in court on Sunday for further remand to police custody. His identity has not been revealed so far.
