The “explosive powder” found in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on July 12th which was suspected to be a high grade PETN (Penta-erythritol tetranitrate) was found to be not at all explosive but powdered quartz, used to make glass. This was the conclusion of the National Investigation Agency(NIA) which took up the matter for investigation.

“Dangerous terror conspiracy”theory false

Chief Minister of U.P Yogi Adityanath had described the recovery as a “dangerous terror conspiracy” and recommended a probe by the NIA. Based on the U.P. government’s request, the NIA had registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The suspicious powder was found close to the seat of Leader of the Opposition Ram Govind Choudhary. The ATS had earlier questioned Samajwadi Party MLA Manoj Pandey in connection with the case as the powdered substance was found close to his seat.

The NIA team which visited the Assembly yesterday,on September 2nd, concluded that it was a case of misplacing of sandstone by workers who did renovation work there a few months ago.

It is however not a “All is well that ends well” scenario, as the damage done by these baseless “dangerous terror conspiracy theories” unfold in countless ways.
