Speaking at an event, Kanhaiya Kumar, the student union leader of Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi on Saturday, December 9th said that riots are no longer only restricted to the streets of cities and towns but have entered homes and families.

“Dinner tables have been divided into two. If a father takes a position in support of secularism, the son calls him pro-Pakistan,” said the youth leader who shot to prominence in February 2016, after the government slapped the sedition bill against him and put him in Tihar jail.

“India heading towards civil war”

Basic necessities of food, clothing and shelter, and matters of agriculture, education and health were being ignored and replaced by violence to such an extent that violence has now been normalised , according to Kanhaiya Kumar.

“Communalism has become poisonous to such an extent that the RSS has been able to divide villages,” Kumar said. “People from outside are not needed for riots, locals do the work. Those who played cricket together, studied in same schools are saying their friends are Pakistanis.”
