We are now living in times of compromise and fear, when independent views and writings are criticised as anti-national or worse, when anything that does not confirm with the majoritarian view is considered blasphemy. Both the written word and especially visual media have become propagandist and mere tools of the existing governments.

On Thursday, 23.8.2018 at 12.30 am, a giant in Indian journalism, Kuldip Nayar breathed his last. He was 95. He will be remembered not only as a pathbreaker in journalism, but as a human rights activist, a person who authored many beautifully researched books( his books on Bhagat Singh must be read by the younger generation), a person who fearlessly fought for the truth, whether it was to oppose the Emergency or one who strived for peace and goodwill between India and Pakistan, throughout his life.
Kuldip Nayar is a veteran whose ideals need to be cherished and absorbed, said many, including the President and Prime Minister while offering their condolences. Many leading journalists joined in remembering his fearless life. The Editors Guild of India is planning to commemorate the legend.
