BJP MLA sent to seven-day CBI custody in Unnao gang rape

A Lucknow court on Saturday, 14.4.2018, sent Bharatiya Janata Party’s Uttar Pradesh MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar to seven days custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation. He faces serious charges of gang rape of a minor girl , way back in July 2017, from his village in Unnao district,which is only 50 kms from the state capital, Lucknow. The girl’s father recently died in suspicious circumstances in police custody.
CBI on taking over the case from the police was forced to arrest the BJP MLA, Kuldeep Singh Sengar, on Friday after direct orders from the Allahabad High court- to arrest the accused and not just “detain him”. He was detained the previous day under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and various sections of the Indian Penal Code on Thursday.
The investigating agency also arrested a woman named Shashi Singh in connection with the case on Saturday, for allegedly taking the teenager to the MLA Kuldeep Singh’s house in July 2017, on the day when he first raped her. The teenager’s mother had complained that the woman lured her daughter to the MLA’s house and stood guard outside the room when he raped the girl.
