The news network CNN sued the American President Donald Trump for blocking access to its chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta.
The CNN has filed a lawsuit in the US District Court in Washington DC against Trump and five of his aides for suspending Acosta’s access to the president’s residence.
The lawsuit also sought the immediate restoration of Acosta’s access. It blamed the suspension as retaliation by the President for his “challenging questions.”
The revoking of the press pass to Acosta was a consequence of a previous interview in which the correspondent posed some difficult questions, leading to Trump calling him “a rude and terrible person.”
The suit alleged that Acosta and CNN’s First and Fifth Amendment rights are being violated by the ban. The First Amendment to the US Constitution prohibits the federal government from making laws abridging the freedom of the press.
