CBI crisis just got bigger, murkier

Even as the central investigative agency is reeling under accusations and counter-accusations between the former CBI chief Alok Verma and Additional Director, Rakesh Asthana, the widening gyre just got murkier.

CBI Joint Director Manish Kumar Sinha told the Supreme Court in a petition on 19.11.2018,Monday that investigation had turned up evidence against Haribhai Parthibhai Chaudhary, the Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines for allegedly accepting kickbacks. Mr. Sinha was part the team investigating Special Director Rakesh Asthana’s role in a corruption case He also accused National Security Adviser Ajit Doval of interfering in the investigation.

It must be recalled that Asthana was specially posted as Special Director on the orders of the PMO. It is generally believed that Rakesh Asthana is PM Modi’s blue eyed boy.

Meanwhile former Director Alok Verma on Monday filed in the Supreme Court his response to the Central Vigilance Commission’s inquiry report. The case will again come up for hearing on 20.11.18, Tuesday.
