The 23rd edition of International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) held in post-flood Kerala on 7.12.2018, Friday was special in many ways. It was a very simple affair with no frills or festivities, without drawing from the government funds. Held in Thiruvananthapuram, it was dedicated to the memory of the lives taken away by floods that ravaged Kerala in August.
The film festival was inaugurated by the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan who said that the IFFK this year would be a declaration to the world that the art scene had not been destroyed in post-flood Kerala.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to the Iranian filmmakerand script writer , Majid Majidi, whose films, ‘The Children of Heaven’, ‘The Colour of Paradise’, ‘The Song of Sparrows’ are acclaimed throughout the world. Receiving the award from the CM, Majidi said, “More than any award and achievement, I would like to cherish the priceless warmth and kindness from the audience.”
The theme of this edition is “The Human Spirit: Films on Hope and Rebuilding.” Bengali filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta was the chief guest and actress and filmmaker Nandita Das was the guest of honour.
