All the exit polls in the country have predicted a victory for the BJP-led NDA government in the Lok Sabha polls 2019.
With a slight decrease in the number of seats in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP has been foreseen to gain many more seats in the two states of Orissa and West Bengal, where they hardly hada presence in the 2014 elections.
The Congress emerged as a late second-third, gaining more seats when compared to its dismal performance in 2014 but nowhere posing a real challenge to Modi-led BJP. It was followed by other parties which included the Mayawati-led BSP and Akhilesh Yadav -led SP in Uttar Pradesh.
However most of the Opposition leaders dismissed the exitpolls. “I don’t trust Exit Poll gossip,” the Trinamool Congress chief said. “The game plan is to manipulate or replace thousands of EVMs through this gossip. I appeal to all Opposition parties to be united, strong and bold. We will fight this battle together.”
