The MIM is trying to expand its wings. It will no more play a second fiddle to the TRS. It wants to grow on its own and make its presence felt in areas beyond the old city. The party, which has largely confined itself to the Old City as part of its understanding with the TRS, is now trying to take the upcoming municipal elections quite seriously. It wants to expand in all areas where the Muslims are in large numbers.
In 2014 civic body elections, it won Bhainsa and Adilabad municipalities and shared power in Tandur municipality and Nizamabad municipal corporation.
This time around, it is eyeing Kamareddy, Bodhan, Jagityal, Armoor, Huzurabad, Zaheerabad, Shamshabad, Medak and Sangareddy municipalities. Minority population has significant presence in the urban areas of Adilabad, Nizamabad, Medak, Rangareddy, Karimnagar and Hyderabad and the MIM wants to leverage on the strength of the Muslims in these regions.
