Donald Trump was criticized by the award winning actress Meryl Streep in her acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globe awards. Without once mentioning his name, she bashed Trump for mocking a disabled New York Times reporter in 2015 and warned that a free press would need to be defended.
Streep brings media-attention of Trump’s negative attitudes
Trump had made fun of disabled Times reporter, Serge F.Kovaleski in 2015. Referring to it as one of the most saddening incidents she had witnessed, Meryl Streep said,
“It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter,” she said, referring to a speech by Mr. Trump in 2015 when he shuddered and flailed his arms, seeming to mock a disabled reporter for The New York Times. “It kind of broke my heart when I saw it, and I still can’t get it out of my head, because it wasn’t in a movie. It was real life.”
“Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence”
“This instinct to humiliate, when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life, because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing,” she said. “Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence. And when the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.”
Trump makes light of the criticism, calls Streep a Hillary supporter
He is now set to become President in less than 2 weeks- January 20th is approaching fast.
Whether they like it or not the majority of Americans voted him and will be forced to “bear”him for the next term.
