Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is set to visit Israel on July 4th for 3 days will not only become the first Prime Minister of India to visit Israel but also will become the first Indian leader who after going all the way to Israel will not pay a visit to the Palestine side!
This is a first as India has been traditionally a strong supporter of Palestine independence and was a great friend of Yasser Arafat. But all that is history now. We are now only strong partners of Israel, especially on military and defense front. India is now Israel’s biggest arms market, buying weapons at an average of $1 billion each year.
Israeli Premier, Mr Netanyahu described PM Modi’s visit as a “historic visit” and said that they have worked together over the past few years to build a “steadfast friendship” between Israel and India. “This visit will deepen cooperation in a wide range of fields – security, agriculture, water, energy – basically in almost every field Israel is involved.”
